Breakfast

Breakfast is usually a difficult meal for us. Neither one of us particularly enjoy sacrificing a wee bit of sleep to get up and actually make something in the morning before work. Marc will usually grab a bowl of cereal. I'm not a cereal fan. We invested in a lot of fruits when we went shopping last week. They included green grapes, Fiji apples and bananas. Marc doesn't like bananas so they usually are a staple of my morning routine.

Saturday mornings, however, are a beautiful thing. Among the awesome gifts we received for our wedding, we were blessed with a waffle iron. I remember clearly going through the store and selecting your normal things: toaster, knives, plates, and finding a waffle iron. I wanted it, Marc laughed at me but agreed. Well, Saturday morning waffles with coffee are a relaxing and energizing way to get the weekend started. It certainly helps we get to choose when we get out of bed before tackling the waffle iron monster, but it is great.

We've tried recipes from scratch to make waffles. They were all tasty, but were of equal yumminess as the store bought mixes. Seeing as we don't use some of the ingredients all that often, it seemed like a waste to keep going with the scratch idea. If you are so inclined to try it anyway, here is one of the recipes we tried from crispywaffle.com (appropriate no?)

We've also started the great move towards black coffee. After four days of no coffee I broke down and brewed a pot yesterday evening. We usually would add flavored creamer and sugar to the coffee. We cut the sugar out and just down to creamer. By our calculations, the creamer adds an extra 240 calories or so to the diet. Hopefully, we'll be able to cut it out completely and be happy with our low calorie, black coffee.
