The Joy of Life...

...is in the people who surround you. We had a very sociable weekend considering that sicky McGee was just getting over the death plague. A good friend of ours celebrated his 30th birthday this weekend. We went out to the local renaissance festival with his family and many other friends. It was really great to see everyone, including some of our friends who got to meet little man for the first time:

Sunday Vince and I went out to visit my family and some friends while Marc stayed home and rested. We had a great time catching up and chatting.

Other news - I'm down another pound, that bring it to a total of 4 pounds with 11 more to go. We're about 11 and a half weeks out, so if I can maintain a pound a week, I can reach this goal. It should be very doable. I'm excited.

AND I managed to flip through the new Food Network Magazine - LOTS of new recipes in there that pique my interest. We need to go grocery shopping this coming weekend, but since we haven't been in almost two weeks, I'm ok with this.

How did you weekend go? Did you get out and do anything exciting?

Nutritional Wasteland

This past weekend was a total waste in terms of exercise and nutrition.

Let me some up our Saturday:

Drop Vince off at his grandmothers
Stop by Starbucks for coffee and a snack
Go to local brewery and have a beer and tour the brewing operation
Go to local tavern for lunch
Pick Vince up from Grandma's
Not eat the rest of the day

Sunday was equally as awesome:

Breakfast: Soup from the local Buddhist temple
Lunch: Coffee flavored ice cream cake
Dinner: Sesame Chicken and Snow Peas

Monday I had off, but Marc still had to work. He had a meeting run late and didn't get home till after 8:00pm. Our dinner last night? Hamburger Helper.

I think dinner on Sunday was the healthiest portion of the whole weekend. So, why did we fall off the wagon? It was Marc's birthday! Yay! Happy Birthday Marc!

Now it's time to climb back on the horse. Vince and I went for a small walk today to break up my time spent in the trenches of work. Our monthly deadline is approaching making things more chaotic than normal.

I'm hoping to cook up something neat. I have strawberries I need to use, along with some fresh red, orange and yellow peppers. I'm out of onion somehow. This should all make the week interesting.

How are you guys doing? Did you jump off the horse for the long weekend too? Any idea on what to use my ingredients on?

Weekend Adventure: Geocaching

The weather has finally cooled down in the lovely state of Florida (read: we finally made it to the mid-60s). I've been bugging Marc to go out to Bok Tower to walk through the gardens and have a nice day outside for a while.

When I saw on their website that they had 3 geocaches I knew the plan was a go.

We had gone geocaching on our trip to Tahoe last winter (You can read more about that adventure here). Ever since we've wanted to go again but never got around to it. This time we were ready.

The first geocache. Can you spot it? I nearly missed it and I had written instructions for it. I'll give you a hint: left side, near the logs. :)

Vince watching Marc open up the box. Vince handled the off-roading excursion very well. He even slept through part of it.

Inside was a buckeye along with a letter about what buckeyes are!

I'm pretty terrible at spotting them, so we had to take a picture of the one I did find!

Our ducky!

During the vacation in California, we found a small rubber ducky in one of the geocaches. Shortly after we returned home, the cousins we vacationed with put a trackable onto the rubber duck with a goal of getting it to us in Florida. (A trackable is an item inside a geocache that has a tracking code. You can log onto geocaching.com, input the code and see where the item has previously been and is currently located.) We bought a tracking tag and put it on this ducky. His goal is to reach them in California! Check up on the ducks using codes: TB41ZNR and TB41342 respectively.

It was a lot of fun. We spent about 2 and a half hours actively hiking about and as you can see, it wasn't exactly an easily paved road:

We are looking at going out again this coming weekend for another geocaching adventure. Most of the calculators I've utilized estimate I burn 1,100 calories. That's incredible in my mind and if I am able to couple that with more walks during the week, it's an excellent push towards healthier living.

The boys taking a well deserved break.

Do you take adventures? What's the most fun you've had while exercising at the same time?
